    Performs and supervises approximately 10-15 laser procedures each week (Slit Lamp, Indirect, Endolaser and Transcleral) for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and retinal tears. An infrared diode laser is used, for which I was one of the pioneers in developing and introducing for ophthalmic use.

    The “Anti-VEGF” compounds, Lucentis and Avastin are administered not only for the treatment of macular degeneration, but also for cases of diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein thrombosis which are resistant to conventional therapy.

Medicolegal

Mr McHugh has been acting as an expert witness in medicolegal cases for the past 14 years. He accepts briefs for both personal injury claims (for example occupational and assault-related) and for allegations of medical malpractice. He has provided specialist opinions for both defendant, and claimants and co-authored joint expert reports. He has presented evidence in court under cross examination.
